Its coming

24 Feb

Oh my god y’all.  The time is nigh.  The Disney Princess Half Marathon is upon us.  What?  No us?  Just me?  Mmmkay.  At least I have The Beast.

Ugh.

To take my mind off of the actual running part, I started concentrating on my outfit.  That’ll help.

Disney Princess Half Marathon!

Just a few essentials.  And some friends.

50 Things…

24 Feb

While perusing Eat Run Read tonight I stumbled upon a link Mollie posted to a column by Chicago Tribune writer Eric Zorn called 50 things I’ve learned in 50 years, a partial list in no particular order.

So fabulous.

Here are some of my favorites…

Promptness shows respect.

It’s not “political correctness” that dictates that we try not to insult others’ beliefs and identities. It’s common decency.

Don’t waste your breath proclaiming what’s really important to you. How you spend your time says it all.

Anyone who judges you by the kind of car you drive or shoes you wear isn’t someone worth impressing.

Four things that most people think are lame but really are a lot of fun: barn dancing, charades, volleyball and sing-alongs.

Your education isn’t complete until you’ve learned to take a hint.

Thank you Mr. Zorn.  I’ll be holding on to these for awhile!

Its National Margarita Day!

I think I may have a new favorite holiday.

On the rocks.  With salt.  Please.

How are you celebrating?

Trying new things

19 Feb

One of my goals this week was to try 3 new classes at my gym.  Luckily for me I knocked this out at the beginning of the week as I’ve been stuck on my couch sick since Thursday.

Sunday I made it to my very first spin class and I was hooked from the get go.  I made it to 3 classes in 4 days and I know I would have made it 5 for the week had this icky sinus infection not gotten me down.

This.

Not this. Unfortunately.

Monday morning before work I tried body attack.  I’m still not sure how I feel about it.  6am on Monday isn’t really my prime time, ya know?  It was high energy aerobics with plyometrics and agility work too.  Interesting.  I’ll probably try it again at a better time to see if  I really like it or not.

Word.

Tuesday I tried body pump for the first time.  I have heard so much about this class over the past few years and it did not disappoint.  I feel like next time I need to kick it up a notch and add a little more weight.  This class definitely has a learning curve, you have to figure out what weight your body can handle for each round.  I definitely underestimated myself.  I plan on using this class to supplement missed training sessions.

P-P-Pump it.

I just love cardigans

19 Feb
I <3 Cardigans

They are my perfect component to a spring wardrobe.  I own more cardigans than I am comfortable telling you.  Florals.  Stripes.  Solids.  I don’t discriminate.

For my springtime uniform I put on my fave jeans, throw a cardigan over a tank top and step out in a pair of ballet flats.

Love.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Its true.  Hope your day is filled with lots of love!

A week of magical eating

14 Feb

Or something.

I had the fortune to venture out to several new to me restaurants this week.  Let me share with you the breakdown.

Seasons 52

This was the freshest meal I can recall having pretty much ever.  Seasons 52 is known for serving low calorie healthy meals.  They have a fantastic wine selection and the servers are very knowledgeable about what wine to pair with your meal.  I enjoyed the grilled vegetable plate with a glass of cab.  The veggies were full of flavor, not overseasoned or greasy and there was a huge variety ranging from carrots, red peppers and golden beets.  I ended the meal on a sweet note with the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mini dessert.  To die for.   I could eat 10 of them, but then it probably wouldn’t be under 400 calories.

Whiskey Cake

I first read about this new(ish) Plano restaurant in a Daily Candy email.  It was love at first site for me and their menu.  I would seriously eat anything this place had to offer.  I started off with their delicious Guava Gimlet (vodka, pineapple juice, lime juice, simple syrup and guava) while we waited for our table.  Once seated I switched to their Honey Basel Collins (Gin, honey, lemon juice, basil and soda).  So refreshing.  Either cocktail would be perfectly enjoyed out on a patio.  My favorite quality in a drink.  I had their spinach and chicken salad which came with a great, tangy vinaigrette dressing.  So good.  This place has a very homey atmosphere, kinda makes you feel like you’re eating in your family’s kitchen.  Great ambiance.  I can’t wait to go back.

Cibus

I had walked by this North Park restaurant at least 100 times before I finally visited for lunch this weekend.  We dined out on their fabulous patio which is out in North Park’s huge courtyard.  Great atmosphere for a mall restaurant.  My friends and I split the Lobster Risotto as an appetizer and it was so addicting.  I could not get enough of it.  I followed that up with the Cibus Benedict.  Holy yum.  This plate included poached eggs on grilled polenta with crabmeat and sauteed spinach topped with a parmesan sauce.  It came with roasted potatoes but I opted to switch those out for an additional side of spinach.  Everyone’s food looked great and this would be the perfect place to take a break from an afternoon of shopping.  Next time I’m there I will definitely opt for the patio again.

Houlihan’s (Addison)

This was my first trip to this chain restaurant and I have to say I’m sold.  I made it there for a late dinner last night and enjoyed some of their small plates.  I tasted the goat cheese and artichoke poppers (so tasty!), a pulled pork slider and their spinach salad (which came with a sweet poppyseed dressing that was so good).  I sat in the bar here and it had a good Saturday night atmosphere and hilarious bartenders.  I would definitely go back, nothing bad ot say about this place.
